Voron M35 VTOL UAV
If we want to describe Voron M35 VTOL drone in one word, we can say it is a monster. Better said, it is a triple Monster (3M) — Monsterous Size, Toughness, and Endurance. The first M stands for the Size or wingspan of the drone, which is 3.5m. The second M indicates the heavy payload capability of the drone. A maximum payload of 10kg is magnificent, especially when mixed with the last M, referring to the long flight time (long endurance) of the M35 VTOL. This UAV flies around 70min with a 10kg payload (150min with a 5kg payload).
Voron M35 is the big brother of M25 VTOL. Compared to the M25, Voron M35 has a bigger wingspan (3.5m compared to 2.5m). Consequently, it can carry heavier loads (10kg maximum payload versus 3kg). The airframe has an aerodynamic design and weighs only 8kg.
There is one landing gear in the rear under the tail control surfaces, and two under the vertical take-off motors’ structure. These three support the vehicle during take-off and landing to be in a stable position on the ground.
The tail is detachable itself, leading to a smaller carrying box. Because of the huge size of the drone and also for safety reasons, there are no embedded connectors in the body to automatically connect the signals, and you have to connect them by hand. The tail is installed in place and attached to the main body with 4 screws that you have to close from the inside. This helps the aerodynamic design of the airplane as there is no extra geometry found on the outside and the smooth surface is preserved.
The wings and v-tail surfaces however have a self-lock mechanism. After putting the wing spar in place, you can connect the wings. You should just push them inward until you hear a click, which means it is successfully installed. The same design is applied to the tail control surfaces.
Amass AS150U series waterproof connectors are used for power signals, and Lemo connectors are used for control signals of motors and servos. This makes sure that detachable parts stay water-resistant during operations in harsh environments.
After installing the wings, the vertical take-off motors’ structure can be installed. It has two types of connectors, with reverse pin type so it is not possible to connect it in the wrong direction. Two long screws from the top tighten the structure in place. The longer screw should be used on the front hole, the shorter one on the rear hole.Â
After all, you can install and lock the fixed-wing and VTOL propellers. The VTOL motors’ propellers are installed with 4 hexagon type screws, which you need a screwdriver to tighten. The fixed-wing’s propeller is easier to install with two nuts.Â
With a large and spacious payload compartment, there are lots of space for installing and carrying your desired payload based on your mission. It has a detachable payload cabin, which means you can easily replace your payload in between consecutive missions.
The payload bin is suitable for missions like delivery missions where you can put a package inside the designed specified compartment. Thanks to the placement of the payload bin directly under the Center of Gravity (CG), you shouldn’t worry about the mass and balance.Â
Different ranges of payloads including Mapping Cameras, Zoom gimbals cameras, as well as thermal and night vision cameras, can be integrated into the payload bin to prepare Voron M35 for rescue, patrol, surveying, and mapping missions.Â
Not only the payload compartment, but every place that you need a quick access to is easily detachable. This includes the battery compartment in the front the drone, as well as the cabin compartment in the middle where the autopilot and other sensors can be installed.
The airspeed sensor pitot tube hole is carved in the front of the body. You just need to connect the pitot tube from the outside. The detachable pitot tube is an ease of mind when carrying the drone around, as you do not need to worry about collision possibility and blockage of the airflow canal. You can easily do a visual inspection before the flight.Â
As a bonus for coming this far, let’s take a look at the full assembly of Voron M35. The estimated assembly time by two persons is less than 5 minutes.
